Samsung recently launched their flagship smartphone for the year 2017. After the demise of the Note series it has been really hard for Samsung to get back on track, considering the billion dollar loss they have gone through. The S8 has been one of the most promising smartphones of today. I did not get a chance to review the phone completely, but I did manage to get a glimpse of this device when I recently walked in to the Samsung Store.
So the first thing that you will spot on the Galaxy S8 is that it has a STUNNING DISPLAY. I mean, it totally outclasses any smartphone out there in terms of display quality. If you plan on picking up the black version of this phone, it just feels like one single block of glass curved all around. That's what they mean by the Infinity Display, which means infinitely going around the edges and making the back and front connect seamlessly.
I got to see the S8 and the S8 plus, and trust me it does not look as big as it seems. If you probably hold an iPhone 7 Plus and the S8 plus side by side, it does look identical except that the S8 is a tinge bit taller, and the iPhone wider. The S8 as well feels smaller, especially since we nowadays have lots of phones coming into the market with big displays.
Samsung has provided a dedicated Bixby button for the S8 and the S8 plus, which is nothing but an advanced AI just like the google assistant. I am yet to experience how the Bixby works, but assuming the type of technology Samsung comes up with it has to be good. Also one interesting change I got to see was the use of USB Type-C slot, which again supports fast charging here.

One important thing you will notice on the phone is the placement of the fingerprint reader, and it now has been moved behind the phone and the home button completely replaced by a bezel-less display. The fingerprint reader has been moved just beside the rear facing camera, and it feels kind of long to catch up when you use it on the S8+ as opposed to the S8. These phones also come with face detection feature built into the front facing camera, so that you can unlock your phone using your face. However, how secure or vulnerable this could be, we cannot say.

The camera on the phone seemed to be slightly improved, and when it comes to taking macros, they come out really well. The good part about the display is that there is so much more room on the screen to look at photos when clicked. Even video viewing , like if you watch lots of YouTube , Crunchy Roll or movies you will love this.

All in all , I found the S8 and the S8 plus really the value for money, but how good is this as an upgrade if you already have the S7 Edge. According to me, not many upgrades in terms of specs, but lots to do in terms of design and build quality. Samsung is running a campaign where in you get a free wireless charger when you purchase the phone. Both the devices come in 3 colours as of now, Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Maple Gold. The phone comes in with 64GB of storage, and good news is that it comes with expandable storage upto 256GB. The S8 is priced at INR 57,900/- and the S8 Plus at INR 64,900/-. You can buy it directly from Samsung website or rather pick it up from Flipkart. Both have the same prices. Also walk in to your nearest Samsung Store to experience more.
