Enable the Picture in Picture Mode on Android O!

After the launch of the much awaited Android O Developer Preview, users and developers are very much excited all about the new stuff that Google has planned for their new Operating System. With every year coming in with some exciting new features, Google has planned on adding some really cool stuff. One of them is the Picture in Picture mode.

If you have a TV which has a capability of Picture in Picture then, I am sure it will be much clearer to you on what this this. However, for anyone who does or does not know how PIP works or looks, follow the steps below, to unlock Picture in Picture mode on Android O.

First Step - Enable the System UI Tuner Menu

So in order to unlock this cool feature, head in to unlocking the UI Tuner Menu which is hidden by default on the Android O. To do this, swipe down the notification bar once. You will see the gear icon, or settings icon, long press it. Tada! System UI Tuner has been unlocked!

Second Step - Adding that Extra Toggle Button for PIP

Now you need to add a specific button on the navigation bar where your back, home and app switch buttons are there. You can either have the PIP button on the right or the left. Go into settings, scroll down , till you see "System" option. Hit that, and then on the next screen you will see the new "System UI Tuner" button, tap that. On the next screen you will see the "Navigation Bar" option, click that.

Now you see another option to add "Extra Left button type" and "Extra Right button type". You can choose any one of them to be the PIP button. So tap it, then choose "Keycode" option. Once done, then you will be presented with the icon you want to assign to the button. If you chose right then Right icon will appear and vice versa. Now you should see another button show on your navigation bar!

Final Step - Experiment with it!

The most cool part is yet to come. Head over to a video application, and your best bet would be YouTube. Open any video and then minimise the video by dragging it down, or leave it as it is. Now on the navigation bar hit that PIP button you created. Bravo! You should be able to now move that PIP video around.

Try and experiment with more such cool features on the Android O Beta!
