Everyone normally goes in for the same type of account - Individual accounts. But this requirement may not be the case every time.
There are 3 main categories of account types namely as follows.
1. Individuals - If your sole aim is to develop apps using Apple Developer Program essentials like XCode, Development tools, etc and you are an Individual or owning a Sole Proprietor / Single - Person Business this is the best solution for you. It costs just 99 USD per membership year.
2. Organisations - If your sole aim is to develop apps using the Apple Developer Program essentials like XCode, Development tools etc. and you are a Company /Incorporated etc then enrol yourself under this program. However one important point to note here is that, if you want to also distribute the apps for use within the organisation exclusively for your Employees as well, under organisations there is something else called as the Enterprise Developer Program. The fees for a regular Organisational Developer Program is 99 USD per year just like regular Individual accounts, however for the enterprise accounts it is 299 USD per year.
3. Education Institutions - This program is also called as the iOS Developer University program which is available for free and any teach capable of teaching iOS development, will be given access to iOS Developer tools, however you cannot distribute apps on the App Store. It is just available for teaching purpose.
